Horizontal screens

Horizontal screens are an essential part of modern horticulture and greenhouse construction. These screens offer a versatile solution for optimising climate management, regulating light incidence and reducing energy consumption.

Through their placement above crops or over large areas, horizontal screens provide even distribution of shade and heat. They help create a stable, controlled environment, which is essential for the growth of healthy crops. Moreover, these screens contribute to shading, which is especially useful for crops that require specific light conditions.

Single screen

A screen installation always helps you regulate a better climate in your greenhouse. Even the installation of a single screen has advantages over no installation. You can make a difference to the quality of your crop and/or the climate in your greenhouse even with minimal resources.

Double screen

A double screen is better than a single screen in many situations. It gives you even more control over temperature, solar radiation, energy saving and humidity. The two layers also give you more influence on the cold snap. Current regulations and legislation on light emissions often require a second screen. We offer three options for a double screen:

Option 1: Upper and lower screen

• Greater flexibility
• Better regulation against radiation
• Less coldness at gaps

Option 2: Two fabrics on the same wire bed

This system is chosen when there is no space for two different wire beds. In addition, this option is more financially attractive. The two cloths are realised on one wire bed but can still be controlled independently. The disadvantage is a large package on both the left and right. This is detrimental to light incidence and the system is also less flexible! An energy cloth for winter and shading cloth for summer are often realised.

Option 3: Two fabrics on the same wire bed with a tracking profile

With this system, less space is required than with an independent profile and you can change screen cloth without cold weather. The most economical option of the three and we often see the combination of wishes with energy cloths and requirements of legislation with assimilation cloths here.

Triple screen

A triple screen is less common. This system is often required for pot plant growers, for example. The third screen provides an even better climate through the combination of: assimilation shading, energy saving and/or shading cloths.

ValkTriplePlus Shield System

Screen profiles are usually narrow at the top and wide at the bottom. With the ValkTriplePlus profile, this is reversed. The narrow underside of the profile creates a smaller fabric package. The wide top edge ensures the profile retains its strength. Moreover, the wide top limits the ‘overblowing’ of new screen cloths when walking on package. Add to this the possibility of attaching plastic wire guide blocks and the fast installation time thanks to prefabricated sealing rubbers, and you can conclude: ValkTriplePlus, 3x better!

Drive systems

We can have our horizontal screens driven in two ways. Via a pull-wire system or via a push-pull system.

Pull-wire system

This system is ideal for large greenhouses and seals the system well due to the slip blocks. If repairs need to be made, this is easy to carry out.

Pull-push system

This system is very suitable for small departments. It gives less force at the gable end, has a longer lifespan and requires less maintenance than a pull-wire system. In addition, the system is more stable and therefore reliable for ventilation in combination with closed screen cloth. However, if something breaks, it is more difficult to repair.
