In Conversation with Sales Advisor Steven Pieters: What Makes Working at SchermNed So Enjoyable?
In January, it was exactly one year since Steven Pieters joined SchermNed. During his first year, he not only developed professionally in terms of knowledge and expertise, but also found his place within the team and in his role towards customers. A perfect moment to reflect..
A year of growth and challenge
Looking back, Steven describes his first year at SchermNed as both educational and challenging.
“I’ve really been given the time and space here to develop myself and dive deeper into the work,” he explains. That development goes beyond getting to know the products and installations; it also includes understanding the technology, the customer’s needs and the bigger picture surrounding each project. Working within a new team was another important part of that first year. “In the beginning, you’re always finding your way learning how things work and how you collaborate. By now, I’ve found my rhythm, and that gives a lot of confidence and peace of mind. The opportunity to learn and grow has really shaped my first year.”
Variety as a driving force
What immediately attracted Steven to his role was the variety. No two days are the same, and that’s exactly what makes the job interesting. “One moment I’m on site with a customer, assessing a situation and thinking along with them. The next moment I’m back in the office working out or finalising a project. That combination makes for a very varied working day. ”The technical aspect of the role plays a major part in that variety. “You’re constantly dealing with installations, custom solutions and technical challenges. That appealed to me straight away. I didn’t want to sell a standard product, but a complete installation and solution that truly fits the customer’s situation.”
Building relationships and working together
Steven gets the most satisfaction from the contact with customers and colleagues. “I really enjoy building and maintaining both new and existing customer relationships. You get to know the companies and the people behind them, and you think along about solutions for the long term.”He also highlights the importance of teamwork within SchermNed. “You truly work together here. Everyone has their own role, but we all work towards the same goal and the same result. That makes it enjoyable and keeps communication lines short.”
International experience in a short time
In his first year, Steven has already visited several international projects. “That was very special. Within a relatively short time, I’ve been to multiple locations abroad for different projects.” He has gained particular experience within the cut flower sector.“Every location and every project is different. That gives you new insights each time and makes the work even more interesting.”
Looking ahead: ideas and development
Looking to the future, Steven sees himself becoming increasingly involved in new developments within SchermNed.“ I enjoy contributing ideas for trade fairs and presentations, and working on new concepts.” He is currently involved in designing a new exhibition stand, for example.“Those kinds of projects really energise me, because they allow you to combine creativity with technical content.” With his broad interests and enthusiasm, we look forward to Steven’s continued development and everything he will contribute to SchermNed in the years to come.
