Celebrating a Milestone: Menno Staal Marks 12.5 Years at SchermNed
Last Friday, we celebrated a special milestone: Menno Staal reached his 12.5-year anniversary at SchermNed. Together with the entire team, we marked the occasion with food, drinks, and a moment to reflect on the past twelve and a half years with Menno.
Menno's journey to SchermNed was never part of a carefully planned career path. After his contract with a previous employer was not renewed, he was driving home when his phone rang."I was already driving along the Maasdijk when Jack called me. I immediately turned around and drove back to Naaldwijk. That's really how it all started." More than twelve years later, it is still a decision he looks back on with great satisfaction.
From a small storage area to a modern warehouse.
When Menno joined SchermNed, our organisation looked very different from what it is today. "Back then, several activities were all housed in one warehouse. Screen installations, window frames, sun shading systems and canopies; everything was mixed together." Since then, SchermNed has grown into the company it is today. Menno witnessed that development firsthand and played an important role in it himself. When asked what he is most proud of, he does not hesitate. "This building," he says while looking around. "I was involved in designing the entire warehouse layout from start to finish." Anyone walking through the warehouse today immediately understands what he means. Everything has its place, materials are stored efficiently, and projects are prepared in an organised and effective manner.
A passion for logistics and export.
Besides seeing the company grow, Menno finds the greatest satisfaction in his daily work. As Warehouse Manager, he plays a key role in project preparation and the logistics processes behind the scenes. Export projects are what he enjoys most. Carefully collecting, checking and preparing materials for shipment to projects around the world gives him a great sense of accomplishment. He also takes pride in keeping the warehouse organised and efficient. "I like it when everything is neat and well organised. Export projects are especially enjoyable. Together, we make sure everything is properly prepared and leaves on time."
A family business where people come first.
Even after 12.5 years, Menno still genuinely enjoys coming to work. The responsibility, teamwork and variety ensure that no two days are the same. Yet what matters most to him is the people he works with. "It's simply a great family business. People notice what you do and appreciate it. That applies to colleagues, but also to subcontractors. It makes it a pleasant place to work." According to Menno, that sense of involvement and appreciation remains one of the foundations of SchermNed. In twelve and a half years, you build more than just work experience, you create lasting memories. Menno looks back fondly on the opening of the current building and the many enjoyable moments shared with colleagues. "When we moved the warehouse to this location, it was a huge step forward. That remains a very special moment." During his first years at SchermNed, colleague Arthur played an important role. "Arthur took me under his wing and taught me a lot. He was my supervisor at the time and helped me find my way within the company." Over the years, the team has evolved, with new colleagues joining along the way. These changes have continually led to new collaborations, positive experiences and lasting friendships.
Summed up in one sentence.
When asked to describe his 12.5 years at SchermNed in a single sentence, Menno's answer is simple: "A great company, great colleagues and a genuine family atmosphere." As an organisation, we could hardly wish for a better compliment. Menno, thank you for your dedication, commitment and loyalty over the past 12.5 years. We are proud to have you as part of our team and look forward to many more successful years together.
